SELF CARE IDEAS FOR VALENTINE’S DAY
By Jynnefer Maria
Nowadays, self care is a household name. Knowing that big day of the year is coming up, you may have thought, “How can I treat myself for Valentine’s Day?”
For most women, not all, but in terms of gifts, Valentine’s Day’s importance rivals Christmas and is the best match to a birthday. LOL. Yes, the countdown has begun. As soon as we’ve turned the corner into February 1, the 14th has it’s on set of blinkers on the calendar of our minds, not to mention the one on our walls.
As the day approaches, you may ask yourself, what can I do to prepare for the big day for Valentine’s Day. Well, you’ve already got the body scrub in the shower, and your hair and nail appointments are set like clockwork, literally. Perhaps, this is a great year to take a closer look at some smaller details at yourself–like the inner you and try some new self care activities out that you may have heard about. Check them out below:
Relax unconventionally at a Salt Cave.
Salt caves are one of the closest places to heaven on earth. You didn’t know? Let me tell you. Salt caves are filled from floor to ceiling and even the ceilings with himalyan salt bricks. You know those pink salt lamps? Those are made of Himalyan Salt, and they have tremendous benefits for your lungs and skin. Here’s how it works, salt caves use a machine called a halogenerator which turns the salt into an ultra-fine mist which is then released into the cave. Usually, the lights are dimmed and relaxing music is playing during your session. “Salt Therapy acts to cleanse the airways and the skin, which helps to relieve congestion, inflammation and skin irritations”, from saltandsoles.com. Enjoy it solo or even take a friend or two.
Let Your Inner Child Play by Going Window Shopping.
Play dress up and get all dolled up for window shopping to nurture your inner child. Start with a mental self care act like a scenic drive out to Mt. Juliet’s Providence Marketplace, scenic drives have shown to increase mental health in a European Study by The Barcelona Institute for Global Health. Walk around in the shops, smelling the perfumes and trying on some dresses and shoes. Take a mental note of all the things you’d love to buy. Don’t consider the price. Just get in touch with your heart’s truest desires without limits. But do spend some money and enjoy some ice cream at one of the nearby shops.
Get a Yoni Steam.
Yoni Steaming A.K.A. Hip Baths or Vaginal Steaming is the practice of allowing the steam of helpful herbs to be absorbed. Yoni Steaming is an ancient practice by many names and practiced amongst different cultures. Yoni steaming is highly relaxing but more than that the herbs used are invigorating and extremely healthful for your body. Experience the anti-inflammatory, blood flow increasing, skin detoxifying, pore opening, anti-aging, collagen boosting self-care benefits for your body! This is a practice you can even D.I.Y. at home with a kit of herbs and instructions.
Practice Mindfulness in a New Way with Painting.
“Art is a natural way to practice mindfulness. The colors, textures and sounds of creating pull us into the moment. You don’t need any previous training to meditate through art, just a willingness to draw like a child, with freedom and a sense of curiosity.” ~Amy Maricle, Art Therapist
When you are painting, choosing colors and creating, your mind is not fixed on any one conscious thought. You allow yourself (and your mind) a much needed break. There are many paint “parlors” and group paint party event venues around town. Or, take a stroll to Michaels or Hobby Lobby to pick up some art supplies and have at it.
With these self-care tips for Valentine’s day, you’ll be A+ ready-ready. What other self care ideas have you thought to do?
